All in One Wi-Fi Printer, Copier and Scanner

CANON PIXMA MG6150

The Canon PIXMA MG6150 is a very highly rated color printer, copier and scanner with wireless functionality and is suitable for home and office use.  The functionality classifies this machine as ‘an all in one’ device allowing the user to print, copy and scan documents in colour or black and white (monochrome) using Wi-Fi connectivity.

The user control on the Pixma is located on the lid of the printer and comes in the form of a spring loaded 75mm TFT (thin film transistor) display and an intelligent touch system.  These features help the interaction between the operator(s) as simple as possible and clear viewing of the machine features, options and settings on the 7.5cm display.

Upon opening the box from new the owner will find the Canon PIXMA MG6150 and software on a CD, six ink cartridges, a printer head, a disk printing tray to go with the integrated tray, a power lead, some sample glossy photo paper and user manual (printed paper copies).  The dimensions are 470 width, 368mm depth and 173mm height.

A print resolution of up to 9600 x 2400 DPI (dots per inch) is made possible by a ‘FINE’ print head a minimum ink droplet size of 1pl (pico-litre, 10 to the minus 12).

The machine aesthetics are modern, cool and slick with black shiny curves and edges making it eye catching and tasteful.  Its contemporary design and looks make it a feature to match any other modern day device in the home or office.  There are no traditional buttons as these are replaced by the touch sensitive ‘intelligent touch system’.  Practical navigation of the control menus is easy and efficient.

There are six print cartridges, for single ink technology, and these are magenta, two separate blacks (small and large for text and photos respectively), cyan, yellow and gray (grey).  The addition of gray cartridge along with the other colors allows for high quality photo-lab standard prints consistently and quickly again and again.  The cartridge ink can be used on a variety of paper types and paper sizes.  It is possible to print single and double sided and borderless prints.

The front and back paper trays hold up to 150 sheets of paper and the ‘direct to disk’ printing tray can be used for printing on to CD, DVD and blu-ray disks.

Users can use a variety of different memory cards with slots available for MS Duo, SD MS and CF cards.  Printing from a card is possible in just two stages and the average printing time for a standard color photo without a border is approximately 20 seconds.

For the scanning functionality the optical resolution is up 4800 x 4800 DPI and it takes about ten seconds to scan an A4 or letter size piece of paper which can then be sent to either a memory stick or onto an e-mail attachment.

Color copying of an A4 or letter size sheet take approximately 15 seconds.  There are features available for copying such as borderless copying, two-sided, 2 on 1 and 4 on 1 copying.

The MG6150 comes with several connectivity options such as Bluetooth, Ethernet and bgn Wi-Fi.  It is possible to print directly from an ipad, iphone, ipod touch, PS3 or any other android device.

The Canon software that comes with the PIXMA MG6150 is quick and easy to install either onto a PC or a MAC.  The software has a good range of options for the user to play around with.  Using the software it is possible to print using the HD movie print function.  Using this, pictures taken from a home movie camera can be printed to an exceptionally high standard.

CHOOSING A MULTI-FUNCTION PRINTER, COPIER, SCANNER

One of the first things you need to decide if you are looking for a new printer (copier and scanner) is your budget.  Prices can vary considerably but you can still get a very good machine for $200 or less.

There are basically two general categories to choose from, these are inkjet printers and laser printers.  Laser printers have historically been the most expensive type of printer and have an association with utilisation in work places and offices rather than in the home.   The cost has been prohibitive for many consumers other than in businesses where larger faster machines can justify their cost due to time and maintenance/servicing savings.  More recently however the cost of some laser printers are on a par with or actually less than some high-end inkjet printers so there may be some households who would consider a laser printer for their home.

The final choice between whether it’s an inkjet or a laser printer will probably come down to what its intended use is.  If you are printing many pages per week (e.g. over 100) then you may be better off with a small laser printer as these are better able to cope with printing volume and it could work out cheaper for you as well especially if your prints are mainly going to be in monochrome (black and white).  Black and white (mono) lasers are available on the market and these are much cheaper than a colour laser.

If colour printing of photographs is going to be the main purpose of the machine then the Canon PIXMA MG6150 all-in-one is going to be very suitable.  Check here for more details about this printer.  The printer is also highly suitable for printing, scanning and copying documents either in black and white or in color.  The printer comes with six color cartridges, including a separate gray cartridge, which means that when printing color images the colors printed are closer to matching the originals.

THE CANON RANGE OF PRINTERS AND MULTIFUNCTION PRINTERS

Since 1947 the Japanese based corporation Canon has been in existence and is today a world leader in the manufacture of printers, copiers and scanners as well as also other optical products such as cameras and camcorders.

For the home consumer and for the professional workplace Canon offer a complete range of printing products.  Multifunctional printers are available as inkjet type or laser type printers.  The lasers have an entry price of around $200 and rise through to $1000 for a top of the range device.  The inkjets start in price at about $80 and rise to $500 or so.  As you can see there is probably a device available for all budgets and you may find a cheaper Canon printing device if you shop around.
